Hi all,
Six-time burner, seven-time jazz fester here in Portland, Oregon. Love and Woo Woo to all.
I work for an aid agency and we're plannin' our employee holiday party. We're using a Mardi Gras-type theme (to commemorate our work for Katrina survivors) and I want to be sure that the decor, small gifts, etc. that we buy for ambiance support y'all down there instead of buying crap from China or somethin'.
Also don't want to fall prey to the generic cheapo mask and bead syndrome if I can help it.
Any ideas? Connections? Local businesses to support?
Thanks, and we hope to see you soon.
Tanya

Re: Helping the local economy
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 9:01 AMHate to say it but all that stuff comes from China. Best you can do is support a local importer. The people at Mardi Gras Zone www.mardigraszone.com/ have always been very good to us. I march with one of the sub krewes for Krewe du Vieux and Benny and his people there have always gone out of their way to take care of us. They are in the Marigny/Bywater area on Royal Street.
